I purchased a whimsical painting of nuns and priests playing basketball. I did not even think about the artist, I just adored it for the form and color. Once home, I caught sight of the artist signature in the corner. How do I know if this is a genuine Canevari painting?
Please advise,

Carlo Canevari was born in Rome, 1922, the first son of Silvio Canevari, famous sculptor. He lived and worked in Grottaferrata, upon the hills near Rome.

This is off a 1969 gallery guide for one of his New York showings.

If anyone has a Carlo Canevari for sale, please email me, I am interested in buying.

A distant relative of mine, Carlo Canavari (1895-1981) was a writer, historician, painter and engraver.

His daughter is still alive and lives in England.

I hope this helps.

I too have Carlo Canevari paintings. I purchased them in NYC in 1998 or 99. One, a set of three paintings on panel, purchased at the Annex Flea Market on the westside around 22nd Street, or so. The second set of three, also on panel, at Doyle Auction house in NYC. Both sets of paintings depict nuns and priests in humorous situations. Slipping on banana peels with umbrellas... winding yarn balls while mice scamper by. I paid under $900 for one set and a little over $1000 for the other.
