I have a 24x36 painting signed J E Jugde, which is Greeleafs married name. It''s a beach scene with a fisher boy holding a rod of fresh caught fish. Titled Aguadillo Fisher boy. I''m sure it''s the same artist but completely different from all the florals I see online. Any idea the value? The painting paper decal backing and orginal frame are in like new condition. My parents bought it in 1966 and paid $100 which is clearly noted on the back, along with a Rhode Island address.

Looks like I''m not the only one lucky enough to own one of Ms. Greenleaf''s paintings! My sister just bought one for me at the Sandwich Antiques Center in Sandwich, MA (Cape Cod). It is a floral--a blue vase with an arrangement of yellow and red roses and some other small white flowers on branches. It is signed J.E. Greenleaf. It is painted on a heavy board, not canvas. There are no other identifying marks, stickers, etc.. The frame is carved in the corners, not overly ornate, and gilded, although the gold paint is flaking off the wood of the frame. Otherwise it''s in great shape, very bright and cheerful. I love it and love finding out more about this artist!

  Wow,

I was doing some research on a painting that has turned up at an estate that we are getting ready to put up for sale.

The tag on the back reads:

"This is a genuine oil Painting, painted entirely by hand. The artist''s name is
Janet E Greenleaf (hand written in ink)
And below that: Art Associates, New York City.

If is also a floral of pink roses, lavender mums, what appears to be yellow buttercups in a medium height rounded green vase on a table. Its about 8-10"x15-18" tall. The frame is white-washed, beaded and mitered.

And somehow it wound up all the way down in Fort Worth, Texas. The lady that sold the house had stuff in it from her grandmother, mother and siblings.

If anyone is interested in the piece before it goes in the sale, let me know. I can send pics of the front and back for your approval.

Thanks,

Mike Michaud

I inherited a painting by JE Greenleaf also. It has pink, purple, yellow and rose colored flowers in a blue vase. The paper on back is old and slightly torn on the back of the painting it says " ''43 Niagra St Mrs. Yoeman then it looks like HQ4035. I''m not sure what it means maybe she painted it in 1943 for Mrs. Yoeman on Niagra St? My Aunt had it for years and I thought it was so pretty that she left it to me when she passed away in Jan 09. Don''t know if it is worth anything but I love it.

I have recently purchased a Janet Greenleaf painting. I found it in an antique store in Hershey Pennsylvania. I looked hard at the picture but did not buy it. I could not stop thinking of it while I shopped at other antique stores. I finally went back to the store and purchased the painting. I think that I got a bargin for 25 dollars. It is mums and daisies in dark pink to maroon colors with a few lavendar flowers in a blue vase. The picture now resides in San Angelo Texas.

J E Greenleaf was from Rhode Island, but she moved around quite a bit. She lived in Smithfield, RI from the late 70s to late 90s. She had a booth at most of the local art shows in places like Wickford, Scituate, Mystic. She also went on painting trips to Europe, where she painted a lot of scenery. She really loved to paint and I remember her working in her studio a lot. I think the only formal training she ever got was at Art Associates, but she did occasionally take one time classes here and there.
I really have no idea how much her paintings are worth. I own quite a few, but I didn''t buy most of them.

  Elizabeth,
I recently purchased one of your grandmother''s paintings. It is signed in her maiden name, J. E. Greenleaf, so I asume that the painting dates before 1940. Your grandmother certainly had an eye for color. I am curious to know the area where she was from, as well as any other information that you would care to share with me. There seems to be many inquiries about her on line, but few listings of facts. I purchased the painting in Wickford, Rhode Island.
Thank you,
Nancy Rocha

Janet E. Greenleaf was my grandmother. She painted for Art Associates in New York in the late 30s and early 40s, I believe. She married in the mid-40s and started painting under her married name, J E Judge. A majority of her paintings were done in oils and are still life florals. She did occasionally do watercolors or scenery, though, especially in the 90s. She passed away in Jan 2003.

I found a painting today also signed JE Greenleaf. It is a quality painting of a golden vase with beautiful pink and white flowers. I am a dealer, so I want to sell mine. If you are interested, email me soon. Today is March, 12 2005. You can reach me at (619) 299-3448. Thanks, and I agree... she is a really good artist, and I bet she must be listed somewhere.

I too have a small oil painting by "Janet E. Greenleaf" that I bought in 2002 at an auction in Maine. The painting measures approx. 8 x 11 and has the customary paper label on the back reading "This is a Genuine Oil Painting painted entirely by hand. The artist name is _______". Janet E. Greenleaf signed her name in the blank. I didn't pay much for the painting however it is quite charming. The painting is of a blue vase of flowers. I would also like to know more information on the artist or the "Art Associates of New York".

My mom has a painting by Janet E. Greenleaf and she wanted me to see if she was famous or not. However, I'm finding it hard to find any information on Ms. Greenleaf. Did anyone find anything about her? Where is she now? Are her paintings worth anything?

  Hi

I have 3 pieces of art, all 3 are of vases of flowers and one is by Janet E Greenleaf the other 2 are by different artist. All 3 have or had a thing on back saying Art Associates New York City and that it was a Genuine hand oil painting. They are done on some kind of board and not canvass frames are gold that is worn and you can see silver. The small nails holding them in frame are very old and almost rusted thru in some places. Does this sound like yours? Any more info found?
Jackie
