Has anyone ever had an issue with spacers popping out of the frame. We re-inforced our spacers with fillet tape, sealed the back of the frame with an acid free foam and framers tape then sealed it again with black framers paper. These frames we''re hanging in 2 seperate aquariums and they seemed to have popped out? Any suggestions out there as to how or why? |

We use FrameSpace, which clips onto the edges of the glass, eliminating any possibility of the spacer coming loose. FrameSpace comes in several sizes, and probably would work better than any spacer help by pressure-sensitive adhesive.
Another benefit of FrameSpace is that it covers the glass edges and reduces the possibility of breakage from edge impact. |

When using the peel-n-stick style spacers, it is recommended that you minimize the allowance between the glass size and the frame size. 1/32 to 1/16 will work just fine. The glass will move in the frame the amount of the allowance. It is also important that you leave a generous allowance between the art size and the frame size to allow for the expansion/contraction of the art (and backing) from changes in humidity.
When usiing the "S" shaped spacers that grip over the edge of the glass, the industry standard of 1/8 inch allowance works perfectly if the glass is square. Remember that glass is not square out of the box. You must do a squaring trim cut on your glass before cutting it to size when you are trying to do precision framing. |

Hi Francine. It sounds to me that these frames are hanging in an area where there is high humidity which causes the adhesive to release. (aquariums) Although I have never seen spacers "pop-out", I have heard of fillets separateing from the mats. The solution is a stronger adhesive like super glue (gel) or 2 part epoxy (20 min). Just a little dap in small increments will go a long ways. I hope this helps :) |
