  Hey,
I got a large USMC flag in my shop yesterday, it is new but very wrinkled. Can I dry mount a flag? I have never tried, only stretched them. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
thanks,
wyatt

Flags are commonly cleaned and pressed, so removing wrinkles is generally not a problem.

I suggest basting its edges to a decorative, chemically inert fabric, and add a few stitches in the mid-section if necessary to provide good support overall. Stretch that assembly to a sturdy substrate. This way, you can attach the flag securely and show the edges without permanently changing the flag''s condition.

Do not dry mount it or apply any adhesive to the fabric

I have stretched them on conservation foam board with pins and it seemed ok, However, these were not irreplaceable flags.

Don''t drymount it! Treat it as a textile and stitch it onto a fabric covered support. I suggest a strainer covered with archival board then covered with fabric. Frame it in a deep frame with UV filtering acrylic and a spacer to separate the acrylic from the flag.
