  Hello,

I realize that the picture framing industry can be a rather difficult industry to elicit financial and economic information from, but maybe getting the opinion of some framers is a good start.

I wanted to get a good assessment of what percentage of the picture frames sold in the market are either contemporary/modern solid wood, or a close substitute such as wood veneer, versus frames made of metal, plastic, or having a more ornate/traditional style.

It may be impossible to get a clear answer to your question, as styles vary among local markets. Also, individual artists, designers, and framers tend to influence consumers with their own opinions and preferences.

That said, I''m sure wood frames are still the most popular, although finger-joined, veneered, and composites may now outrank full-grain woods.

In my shop, about 30% are full-grain woods, now mostly soft, and about 50% are wood products; composite, veneer, or finger-joined. About 20% of frames are either plastic or aluminum sectional.

  Hello Yufan!

Wood picture frames are by far our biggest sellers at Frame USA. A more modern look or "standard" look is what people seem to prefer. With good reason, I may add: simple frames do tend to make the art "pop" more. A lot of our wood frames are made from an eco-friendly wood composite, which our customers enjoy. Metal and plastic frames do have their popularity as well, but wood seems to always take the lead. You can see how our site is structured if you''d like: frameusa.com
